Uviglie Castle rises on the hills to the east of Rosignano Monferrato
at about 8 km. from Casale Monferrato. The Paucaparte di Celle family
built it between 1239 and 1271 and in 1491 it passed to the Earls
Pico-Gonzaga who started the agricultural activity.
In 1820 the Earls Callori di Vignale succeeded the castle and
commenced the restructuring and refurbishment under the supervision
of architect Arborio Mella. The Earl Cacherano di Bricherasio,an
associate founder of FIAT, succeeded the castle in 187.
In 1904 with the death of the Earl, his sister succeeded him and
donated the whole estate to the Missionari della Consolata of Turin.
In 1992 the castle estate was bought by Simone Lupano that relaunch the vine cultivation in such a suitable area for the production of excellent grapes without harming historical roots and demonstrating maximum respect of the countryside.
The choices of wines, just like the choice of vines, having common characteristics of vintage wines, is not incidental:
fine DOC wines such Barbera del Monferrato, Barbera del Monferrato superiore, Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese,
Monferrato Freisa and Piemonte Chardonnay. |
